THE HOT BEGINNING OF SUMMER – THE CHARLATANS AND GRUBSON TO HEADLINE GARLANDS ON THE VISTULA
20th June will see the biggest outdoor event in Warsaw – Garlands on the Vistula River at Podzamcze. There will be plenty of attractions in the air, on land and water, and loads of opportunities to have fun. During the day, The Midsummer Picnic will join together the two banks of the river. In the evening we will be treated with a variety of concerts from The Charlatans, GrubSon, Maciej Maleńczuk & the Psychodancing band and Rebeka. Surprises and special attractions to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Stołeczna Estrada will be the icing on the cake. The night will close with an impressive fireworks display. All of this to celebrate the beginning of summer in one of the shortest nights of the year.
This year’s Garlands on the Vistula will explode with events – says Andrzej Matusiak, director of Stołeczna Estrada – We want to play with all the senses: you will be able to admire, listen and savour the fun. We will blend tradition and modernity. Retro-style attractions will engage the audience alongside the technologically advanced attractions. It is the 20th time that we invite you all to Garlands on the Vistula, but we do not look back and we carry on looking for new and inspiring ideas. That’s why, every year over 100 thousand people celebrate this night with us at Podzamcze.
It will be a British music legend The Charlatans, that will bring the crowds to the evening concert. Their freshly released 12th album “Modern Nature” was recognized by critics as the most mature and the best in their so far career. Just before midnight, GrubSon will heat up the atmosphere. The top Polish hip-hop player is famous for his great live concerts. At Garlands on the Vistula he will perform together with DJ BRK, Jarecki and a band SANEPID. The highlight of the night will be a special festive project for the 60th anniversary of Stołeczna Estrada. Over the Vistula River we will hear Polish pop music hits of the past six decades in extraordinary and surprising arrangements prepared by the Soul Service & Break da Funk and special guests. Charismatic Maciej Maleńczuk with the Psychodancing band will sing legendary songs of Bogdan Łazuka, Wojciech Mlynarski, Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra. The main stage line-up will be rounded up with a performance of Rebeka. Proclaimed “the hope of Polish electronic music” by foreign media, the couple won over the Polish audience with a debut album “Hellada”. Not only in the evening will you hear the fantastic music at this year’s Garlands on the Vistula. For the first time, throughout the day the music will be blasting out of a retro stage, where Janek Młynarski and the Warsaw Dance Combo will take care of keeping the audience entertained. Their modern versions of the old top hits such as “La Paloma” and “W Saskim Ogrodzie” will take us back to the world of pre-war Warsaw and revive the carefree atmosphere of those years. For the first time we will be able to spend an afternoon at the Garlands frolicking and learning Warsaw dances, spying on the raftsmen sailing techniques and listening to the true dialect of Warsaw.
Admission to all events is free.
We shall first meet at the Hard Rock cafe in the city centre.
